The College School
Materials Science Camp For Grades 5-8
Materials science is the foundation of all engineering… everything is made of something, right? The development of new materials and innovative combinations of materials drive the future – think about the various materials used to make cell phones, tablets or flat-screen TVs, or to power a hybrid or all-electric automobile. Energy is a growing research area in science and engineering—through fuel cells, electric vehicles, wind and solar power, “smart” structures, and even nuclear power. Advanced materials are playing a crucial role in so many areas. Campers will explore materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and nanomaterials, discover how these materials are processed, and learn how their atomic and molecular structure determines their properties. Campers will also tour research facilities on the University of Delaware campus and participate in hands-on activities with faculty and staff. Through science and engineering activities, students will gain an understanding of how materials impact the fields of energy, biotechnology, electronics, and aerospace.
Before and after care is available with this camp for an additional fee. When registering for this camp, please note whether your camper will need before or aftercare.
Cost: $500
