The College School
An Afternoon of Mathematics
During Mathematics Week, students will strengthen their algebra readiness skills through engaging, hands‑on activities grounded in real‑world scenarios. Teachers will use high‑quality instructional materials to help students build confidence with algebraic reasoning, pattern recognition, proportional thinking, and problem‑solving. Students will explore mathematics through puzzles, games, modeling tasks, and collaborative challenges designed to make algebra meaningful and accessible.
To help families see each child’s growth, the week will begin with a brief pre‑test and end with a post‑test aligned to the skills we focus on during camp. Students will also maintain a simple tracking sheet that breaks down their progress by standard, giving parents a clear picture of the specific areas where their child has strengthened their understanding.
Throughout the week, students will have opportunities to apply their thinking to authentic situations: comparing quantities, analyzing patterns, interpreting graphs, and using variables to represent relationships. The goal is for students to leave the camp feeling more prepared for Algebra I and more confident in their ability to reason mathematically.
This camp is for rising 7th and 8th graders.
Cost: $200
Payment must be made in full when registering.
August 17 – 21, 2026, 2026 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Phase‑by‑Phase Breakdown:
Phase 1 (12:35–1:25 PM):
- Students will engage in warm‑up routines and number sense activities that build fluency with foundational algebra concepts. This may include pattern explorations, visual models, and short problem‑solving tasks that activate prior knowledge and set the tone for the day.
Phase 2 (1:30–2:20 PM):
- This session focuses on the core algebra‑readiness lesson of the day. Students will work with high‑quality instructional materials that require algebraic reasoning, such as comparing rates, modeling situations with expressions, or analyzing tables and graphs. Activities will be collaborative and hands‑on.
Phase 3 (2:40–3:20 PM):
- Students will apply what they learned through games, challenges, or small‑group tasks. This session emphasizes mathematical communication, reasoning, and reflection. Students may work on mini‑projects, problem‑solving stations, or extension activities that deepen understanding.
Materials or Notes for Families:
All mathematics materials will be provided. However, students should bring a water bottle and a notebook for jotting down ideas or strategies. Those students enrolled in Physistry in the morning will need to bring lunch each day.
Cancellation Policy
The College School is committed to providing a high-quality camp experience for all participants. In the event that a camp registration must be canceled, we are able to offer a full refund only if the cancellation request is submitted in writing to tcs-ud@udel.edu at least three weeks prior to the camp’s start date. Requests made less than three weeks before the camp’s start date are not eligible for a refund unless the vacated spot can be filled. If the space is successfully filled, a full refund will be issued. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the best experience for all campers.
