The College School

Dear College School Families,

Greetings!  Hoping this note finds everyone doing well.

Many thanks to those who were able to attend Parent Night’s on Thursday.  It was great to finally meet as a group in-person!  If you were unable to attend, don’t worry–I will outline my comments below and you can reach out to your son’s/daughter’s classroom teacher regarding anything related to academics.  Here are some updates:
  • Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair will be extended through this Monday, October 3rd.  We could use some parent volunteers to help breakdown the book displays that afternoon.  Please email Mrs. Drumm if you are interested in assisting.
  • Pick-up/drop-off: be mindful of your speed when driving in the parking lot; also, please be patient during pick-up–the teachers will do their best to keep the line moving but we need to make sure everyone is safe as we load up the cars for departure
  • Email communications: please keep in mind that the teachers’ schedules are very full so they may not be able to respond to emails right away; also, for more immediate issues (i.e. picking up child early unexpectedly) it is best to contact the main office
  • Attendance: regular attendance is very important to keep your child in a consistent routine; please communicate with your child’s classroom teacher and the main office regarding absences, lateness, and early dismissals
  • Clubs/events/activities: the school is looking for opportunities to expand clubs/events/activities (i.e. we have recently reinstated the monthly trips to Russell Dining Hall)
  • Dyslexia/ADHD Month (October): we will focus on celebrating differences among students and helping them better understand each other; stay tuned for classroom and school-wide activities
  • Communication: we will be distributing a monthly calendar highlighting event/activities as well as important upcoming dates; Dr. Phil will continue to send his weekly email update
  • Admissions: currently, we have 45 students with several prospective families showing interest in TCS; please be an advocate for TCS when you are out in the community–let’s make this “hidden gem” well known!
  • TCS gear: Dr. Phil is working closely with members of the College of Education and Human Development to create College School spirit wear
  • Staffing: TCS is looking to fill important roles at the school including 1) classroom assistants (generally, these are UD students) and 2) Guidance Counselor–Dr. Phil has received several resumes and will begin interviewing potential candidates soon
The school year is off to a great start!  Please reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or if you just want to chat.

Best,
Dr. Phil
