Dear TCS Families,

I hope this letter finds your family off to a wonderful summer! We wrapped up our last day as a full staff last Friday. We were fortunate to accomplish most every item on our list including a debrief of the 2020-21 school year, a comprehensive analysis of student assessment data, curricula updates and purchases of new subscriptions, books and materials. Additionally, we worked on homeroom placements, as well as intervention and enrichment groups for our new and returning students, while laying out thoughtful plans for next year’s calendar and daily schedule. Finally, teachers finalized report cards and completed summer work suggestions & supply lists for students. Great to check all the boxes and enjoy a focused week of full collaboration. I believe everyone headed out the door feeling organized and readily prepare for the new school year ahead. How encouraging to leave with a sense of closure, particularly after an unprecedented year. TOGETHER, with our combined partnership, we ALL accomplished so much!

As summer continues, I plan to keep busy with prospective family visits and helping to prepare and receive records for our transitioning and incoming students. If you need assistance or have questions over the summer months, please feel free to call TCS directly (831-0222) or contact Laura Baker (llbaker@udel.edu) or me (lcd@udel.edu) via e-mail as one of us will be in regularly through the summer. Additionally, for billing or financial questions, please contact Mrs. Cheryl Macey (cmacey@udel.edu).

I want to take a moment to share a few end-of-the year remarks, as well as some for the new school year ahead. First, I truly appreciated the positive energy displayed by ALL who attended our “Better Together” Closing Ceremony on June 9th. What a joy it was to have this time of celebration “in person” on our final day! Special life-events like these generate many emotions; however, while it is hard to say good-bye to members of our TCS family, we must celebrate ALL that has been accomplished. Again, thank YOU for your continuous patience and compassion this year.

Finally, for those new children and families who will be joining us in September, I promise that becoming a part of The College School will be a unique and rewarding experience. As one journey ends, it is always exciting to see a new one taking shape to begin! Have a GREAT summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. AND, if you happen to be in Newark this summer, please stop in to say hello….I’d love to see you!

All the best,

Mrs. Dougherty
