Dear TCS Families,
While it is never easy watching the final days of summer come to an end, there is still a stirring anticipation about the return of fall and the fresh new start to a school year. In that spirit, preparation at TCS has been well underway the past few weeks. Thus, there is a LOT to get excited about as we begin this year! Highlights include new Science and Social Studies curriculum materials, various technology updates, and a collection of new books to fill more shelves in the “Literacy Link.” In addition, we are in the process of completing a paint renovation project. Expect to see brighter walls and hallways when you enter the building. The new paint, the freshly waxed floors, and the change in décor among classrooms truly have our building looking great!
And, a few housekeeping items….First, in terms of your child’s class placement, please note that our Homeroom classes are typically assembled by Literacy level, however, there may be exceptions in which some children are placed in a different Literacy class than that of their Homeroom. All assignments are carefully considered to best serve the needs of each student. Next, for the second year, TCS will continue with a semester schedule, which entails mid-semester progress reports (and conferences) in November and March and biannual narrative report cards in January and June. Please refer to the TCS calendar to view these specific dates. And, please note that each Literacy teacher is responsible for developing and holding an Accommodation Plan meeting specifically tailored to your child’s learning needs. If you have not already received a call or e-mail from Mrs. McDonough scheduling your meeting date, expect to hear from her soon. Finally, if you have not already completed the Student Information Survey on the TCS Website, please take a few minutes to do so. Again, this survey is located in the “Parent Portal” on our site.
We are thrilled to welcome several new students and two new graduate students, Lauren Carra and Laura Nye to our “TCS Family.” I am excited for you to meet many of them on 8/28 at our Welcome Back Social. New families are invited to come from 3-4 to participate in a parent orientation session that will allow plenty of time for questions and answers about the upcoming year. In the event that you cannot attend, we will include the power point presentation under the “Announcements” section of our website (www.collegeschool.udel.edu).
I know that this year will be one of promise for The College School…a year to embrace the elements of teamwork, self-assurance, and success for ALL! I thank you for your trust and involvement in your child’s education. The support you provide is deeply valued by our entire staff. Again, I look forward to seeing you on the 28th. Don’t forget to bring your child’s school supplies and paperwork!!
Enjoy these last days of summer!
