First in Math

First In Math® is an online game that allows students in grades 1-8 to gain fluency in a range of math applications – from basic addition to algebraic equations. Our students use this in their class or as extra help after school to improve their math skills.

The First In Math® Online Mathematics Program is an online version of the 24® Game, created by Suntex International Inc. In the 24 Game, students use numbered cards and the four arithmetic operations to arrive at the target number. Because the end result is always 24, students focus on learning the patterns and processes used to arrive at the answer, rather than worrying about or even guessing the answer each time. Subsequent editions of the 24® Game introduced factors, variables, fractions and algebraic expressions.

In 2002, Suntex launched the online version of the 24 Game, known as First In Math. The online program allows students to play the game through any internet connection. It is a curriculum supplement that provides students with practice of fundamental skills they need to achieve their academic goals, including fluency in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while advancing higher-order thinking skills such as mental math, problem solving, pattern sensing, reasoning and number sense.

The online application allows students and teachers to measure usage. Students earn “stickers” as they move through games and Skill Sets®reinforcing skills from grade 1 – grade 8. Teachers and administrators can track student progress through Assessment Reports, which graphically display time spent on FIM and the Skill Set level attainment for individuals, classrooms and schools.
